You know the 'healthy eating' message has finally sunk in with your kids, when ...

dd (9) reacts with 'what REALLY?' when I offered her a chocolate-wafer straw thingy.

Pre-amble to that was that I took them to the park which involved lots of running around trying to get a kite to fly. And as it's also school holidays I thought to myself, they've burnt it off and can have a little treat...

DS (6) didn't query, though saying that he asked me for a plate of fruit afterwards

I am waiting for that moment. DD is currently doing a healthy eating healthy lifestyle unit at school. She watched supersize me and has told me and DH that Macdonalds is not a good choice.
At the weekend we went to the beach, I asked her what she wanted for lunch. Chicken nugget happy meal.

They query my offer of a gregs sausage roll when out and about Hmm

storminabuttercup · 14/04/2011 16:36

you know ivy - when i was a kid - we were given a greggs (thurnstons as it was then) whenever we were in town a) because it was healthier than the mcdonalds we wanted and b) mum couldnt afford mc donalds all the time.

DS too young to get any message yet. although DP is getting there!

ivykaty44 · 14/04/2011 17:46

Is there really a difference between mc'd's and gregs...?

A little bit of junk never hurt anyone and a gregs sausage roll every couple of months isn't going to hurt anyone. Though I would rather a homemade chocolate pudding myself Wink

storminabuttercup · 14/04/2011 18:01

nah i dont think so (i think mum was driven by price)

mmm chocolate pud

..when your son wants more sprouts rather than roast potatoes.

when DS2 removed the jam tart from his lunchbox this morning and replaced it with a box of raisins.

Although I can't swear it's because of any healthy eating message sinking in, he has just always had a liking for fruit. My other children would sell their granny for a penguin biscuit.

When your ds comes home from school hungary because his drink ruined his sandwich and he hasn't eaten his yoghurt.

When asked why he hadn't eaten said yoghurt, he says "because you always say I can't eat my pudding until I've eaten my main course" Sad

When you ask them what sweets they would like as a treat at the supermarket and they ask for a carrot Grin

when DD goes for lunch at GPs house and tells GDad off for only having cake with his tea

'You can only have treats after your healthy food Grandad'

DD aged 3.10yrs

amidaiwish · 15/04/2011 12:43

well i was pretty chuffed that the DDs insisted on Carluccios yesterday (DD1 chicken, DD2 lasagne) when i suggested TGIs...

that's about as good as it gets in my house.

MrsBigD · 19/04/2011 05:21

LOL on the other hand dd a while back thought KFC was healthy 'because it's chicken' GrinBlush
