Help Urgently required to salvage chocolate cornflake cake disaster!

Basically, I melted some cooking chocolate - but it never went really runny. I then tried to mix it with the crushed up cornflakes but it didn't work. It's all very...well...flakey. There is no way it'll hold together. What can I do to salvage this mess?!

Chuck it in the bin and start again. Use normal chocolate (value is fine imo) and then add whole cornflakes, no need to crush them

Hmmm, try heating up some golden syrup and adding that to the mix.

It sounds like the choc was overheated. Does it taste burnt? If it does it's a goner, if not add the syrup and you'll have sticky chocolate treats. Yum!

The chocolate may have seized, but as you've mixed cornflakes in, tis a bit late I think. If it 'seizes' again, add about a tbls melted butter per ounce and stir in, then carry on with recipe...

My answer to all culinary disasters: eat it with a spoon

However, Choccy has an extremely sensible back up plan Grin

Thanks all! I think boosmummie may be right but i've never heard of chocolate "seizing" before. How can I prevent this from happening?
And choccy, I have already spooned a rather obscene amount into my mouth...yum!

It basically seizes when the smallest amount water gets into it while it's melting. Make sure if you're doing it over a pan of water that a. the water in saucepan is at least 1.5" from the bottom of the bowl and b. don't let the water boil, just a gentle simmer is enough. A boil can cause the steam to go mad and thus present you with water droplets in chocolate....! If you're nuking it then use half power and check every 30 seconds or so. Before it's all melted turn off microwave and the residual heat will do the rest.

boosmummie Thank you so much! Sorry for belated reply. I know that a couple of drops of water got in, so that, coupled with the fact that I immersed the bowl in the pan of hot water, explains it all really. I've been doing it ALL wrong!! However, thanks to your tips, next time it will be a triumph.
