Help, oven broken! (hob working but need meal plan ideas)

I'm going to be without an oven for 3 weeks, what can I cook in pans instead? Bored of spag Bol already :)

Usually we have a roast, turn left overs into a pie. Next night I do something easy like salmon in parcels. Then lasagne or fish pie, then quiche and jackets.. Basically we use the oven a lot, usually.

Can anyone suggest please some meal ideas? I'm feeding me, DH and 2 year old DTs so basic family stuff for 4 big eaters. Thanks

Noodles and a stir fry
Stews (simmer on lowest heat for a couple of hours instead of in oven)
Poached or lightly fried fish with pots and veg or steam the salmon in a big pan
curry and rice
Paella
Omlettes/frittata

Do you have a slow cooker? If not now is the time to buy/purchase or borrow one.

You can pot roast a whole chicken in the slow cooker and serve with mash potato instead of roast - carrots and onions around the side of the chicken in the slow cooker and then make the gravy with the juices of this and a little white wine to cook the chicken in. Vegtables to serve.

You can also pot roast a silver side or beef slowly in red wine in a slow cooker Smile and serve with saute potato done in a fry pan with garlic and herbs, serve with carrots and peas and again make a gravy from the juices the meat cooked in.

when my oven broke in November, i cooked a few casseroles and 1 pot dishes (that are oven cooked for a while) on the hob in my le cruste pan with the lid on. It worked fine and was as tastey.

jacket potatoes can be done in mircrowave (edible but not quite as nice!)

Pasta and sauce, make your own, cheap and yummy.

Fish pie can be done too... make the fish and sauce, add the veg in. then make a pan of mash pot and just put straight onto plate.... ok top isnt crispy like in the oven but still tastes great.

can do same for shepheards pie / chicken pie

also what about smoked mackeral salad
chicken fajitas

We had the same last year . Microwave ? Grill ? Slow cooker ? Pressure cooker ? Halogen cooker (great for jacket spuds)

Fish either poached, steamed or fried (preferably in a grillipan) - if you have a grill top with potato and grill to brown as a pie
Omelettes/pancakes
Stews with dumplings
Sausage and mash
Pasta with a tuna/tinned salmon sauce
Macaroni cheese, make sauce sperately combine with pasta and grill to finish

Chilli con carne with rice.
Any stir fry sauce with chicken & veg, serve with rice or noodles.
The jars of sauce for making enchiladas, you can use as a cook in sauce for chicken and veg. Serve with rice.

If you have a microwave, salmon fillets cook fine. Place in dish with a lid, squeeze over some lemon juice and add a blob of butter/marg.

This is a nice quick meal, pasta with phillidelphia and smoked salmon. You can use the value/basic smoked salmon, it's only cheaper because it's the smaller bits that don't make it into the sliced packets.

Philadelphia and smoked salmon pasta

We've been without an oven for a couple of weeks and are missing roast dinners. So far we've survived on...
Casseroles
Pan fried fish (I can recommend Vietnamese River Cobbler)
Chilli
Pasta sauces of various varieties
Stir fry
Curry (Indian and Thai)
Omlettes

Our grill is still working so we've also had sausages and mash.

nocake, do you have a recipe for the Vietnamese River Cobbler please.
