2 year old mindee would eat eggs for every meal were she to be allowed. Does anyone know what the recommendation is?

I've tried goggling but can't find a definative answer.

TIA

There used to be limits for safe consumption of eggs, mostly aimed at preventing high cholesterol. Since then, the advice has been relaxed to 'no limit' for most of us with different advice for people with cholesterol issues.... and it's the fat rather than the cholesterol that they're being advised to keep down.

For toddlers, therefore, there wouldn't be a specific safe or unsafe level. Eggs are a great source of iron, protein and various fat-soluble vitamins. There's the usual advice about making sure they're properly cooked (although even that advice is becoming more redundant now that salmonella is on the wane). And the most important thing, of course, is for children to have a varied and balanced diet.

There was an "egg scare" few years ago when it was thought that eggs will clog your arteries and cause an early death. It was later proved to be a myth. Eggs are very healthy and as long as she has otherwise varied diet with vegetables and fruit, eating lots of eggs won't harm her.

Thank you, I feel reassurred. I have a special permission to give her soft boiled eggs which she loves.

Her diet is very healthy and varied so I think I'll stop worrying Smile
