hello all

We are getting fed up of eating the same old meals every week and I am one of those poepl who needs a recipe to follow (I dont instinctively know what goes with what iyswim)

I am looking to buy a new recipe book and was wondering about Jamie's ministry of food? As we have tried the beef and guiness stew from there and it was lovely and uncomplicated too

I am looking for a book which has simple but tasty and flavoursome family meals on a budget. The most important thing is that is doesnt have massive lists of expensive ingredients - I am on a tight budget and cant afford to buy lots of expensive sauces, fresh herbs, oils, chutneys etc that i see in some recipes etc

I am happy to spend some time cooking, but work 3 days a week so need reasonbaly quick things for those days

I like it.

The recipes are simple and easy to follow, not too expensive ingredients and have always turned out well.

I also like his 30 min meals but for good basics, MOF is probably better.

Yes, I like it and have cooked most things from there and many are now staples now, the curries are really good.
I too have a small budget and also live in a small town so exotic ingredients aren't always available.
His dinners book is good too.

oooh curries would be good - I've always wanted to know how to make one without the addition of a jar from mr tesco - will go and have a swizz at one in waterstones i think

Do come back with how you get on.

The fish pie is fab too, really quick as no faffing about with a sauce.

I make the curry sauces in bulk to freeze, and the curry pastes.
That way, I can whip up a meal with a choice of two of three curries with no effort at all.

sounds great

i watched the little video clip on amazon of him making the fish pie - I can't beleive it came out looking so creamy and yummy yet was so simple to make - like 10 minutes prep!

am excited about this now

adore it - love the salmon/pesto/french bean parcels.

yes and the fish pie is to die for

I might get this now. I have the 30mins book which is great for family meals in the evening so this one looks like a good one to add

I don't usually fall for the whole Jamie thing, but his MOF book is a good staple and shows how to do some basics and gives some nice twists so it is easy to vary the recipes ...
