i'm not the best cake maker in the world (i've made about 3 larges ones in my life Grin).
i need to make a celebration cake soon and thought the ribbon that goes around it would hide a multitude of sins - but apart from very expensive cake shops can i buy it anywhere else or is it Ebay for me??

TIA

Go to any department store that has a haberdashery (eg John Lewis) /fabric store and just buy a metre of ribbon...

Yup. Any nice wide ribbon will do. If you pin it together, just remember to take the pin out! Or get a wide piece of ribbon and wrap it round the cake, just overlapping the ends, and then a thin piece of shiny ribbon (curling ribbon like you use for wrapping xmas presents) and wrap that around and tie it in a bow.

Or the kind of ribbon you get in card shops/Paperchase that is kind of sparkly gauze with wire along the edge. That's good too.

Flowers are also good for glamming up a cake without getting into fancy icing.

also hobbycraft do ribbons

you can stick to the cake with dots of icing if you like

do you have an indoor market near by? there is always a cake decorating stall in them!

Any florist will sell you a length of their ribbon and make up a bow for you for a couple of quid.

Some Post Offices stock these, along with the jam pot covers!

I send the in-door markets in town. Much cheaper and more helpful.

youre right there bacon. our local indoor market has a stall selling cakey things, home brewing stuff and herbs and spices, i bought a packet of carraway seeds for 79p - thats half what you pay in the supermarket for those little glass jars that are half the size!
