The Ribbon that goes around a cake??? where DO you buy it??

i'm not the best cake maker in the world (i've made about 3 larges ones in my life Grin).
i need to make a celebration cake soon and thought the ribbon that goes around it would hide a multitude of sins - but apart from very expensive cake shops can i buy it anywhere else or is it Ebay for me??

Go to any department store that has a haberdashery (eg John Lewis) /fabric store and just buy a metre of ribbon...

Yup. Any nice wide ribbon will do. If you pin it together, just remember to take the pin out! Or get a wide piece of ribbon and wrap it round the cake, just overlapping the ends, and then a thin piece of shiny ribbon (curling ribbon like you use for wrapping xmas presents) and wrap that around and tie it in a bow.

Or the kind of ribbon you get in card shops/Paperchase that is kind of sparkly gauze with wire along the edge. That's good too.

Flowers are also good for glamming up a cake without getting into fancy icing.

you can stick to the cake with dots of icing if you like

do you have an indoor market near by? there is always a cake decorating stall in them!

Any florist will sell you a length of their ribbon and make up a bow for you for a couple of quid.

I send the in-door markets in town. Much cheaper and more helpful.

youre right there bacon. our local indoor market has a stall selling cakey things, home brewing stuff and herbs and spices, i bought a packet of carraway seeds for 79p - thats half what you pay in the supermarket for those little glass jars that are half the size!
