Cake recipe for flower moulds

I've been given the most beautiful, silicone, mini flower cake moulds. Problem is what recipe would you use. As the cakes come out flower shaped you can't really ice them.
I have made some with a basic cupcake recipe, cut them in half and then filled them with butter icing. They were nice but a bit messy looking.
Any ideas??

I've got some of these, though mine are metal. I haven't used them much, but I think the best idea to to use a recipe that won't rise too much, so you don't get "peaks" on the top (as the top will become the bottom, when you turn the cake over to see the flower)

I've used a chocolate brownie recipe, which worked well. I'd like to find a non-rising Victoria sponge recipe, so I can drizzle runny pink icing over the top.

Totally agree with needing a non rising cake recipe. I had to cut the peaks off which kind of added to the messy effect.
A brownie recipe is definately worth a try. Thanks.
