princess cake - how do I get the icing bodice to stick to the plastic Barbie's boobs?

Have practised today with apricot jam - Barbie's modesty was severely compromised as the bodice slipped :)

My SIL wraps the barbie in clingfilm first and then puts jam on top, I did wonder how the whole thing stayed stuck.

I have always just iced directly onto her body, starting at the bottom and working up. She has never flashed anyone! Grin

i buy a barbie with clothes from pound shop (preferbly one whose legs come off!) and then wrap her from the waist down in cling film and just ice up to the bottom of the bodice...

I've always used a ribbon for the bodice (there's one on my profile I think).

The ribbon looks great, that may be the answer. Did you use buttercream on the skirt Bramshott? I've struggled a bit with getting the fondant icing to look smooth enough when I practised today.

We have a Barbie with a spike instead of legs from the special cake shop, was trying to make a fondant bodice but maybe I could try piping a bodice on instead.

i use a little bit of water on the body and then ice straight onto the body. to cover any patchiness i usually dampen the fondant once it is in place and cover in edible glitter Smile

if you use facebook, add my cake profile Iced ByEi and there are pics there Smile

Bramshott · 22/03/2011 15:48

That was ready to roll icing, on top of buttercream to make it stick.

Figgyrolls · 22/03/2011 15:56

water or vodka! Thats what the pro's use, the apricot jam works on the cake to keep the crumbs in place before buttercream icing and then fondant.

Good luck, shall be watching with interest to see how it goes! Grin

thanks all. Am starting to stress as Ds and Dd are having a joint party so their cakes need to be done on the same day. Ds luckily is having a treasure map cake - much more simple
