What would be the lightest option on this menu? HELP!

I have been lucky enough to be invited by DH ( a corporate thing ) to eat from this menu

I admit to being a particular eater ( not so much picky or fussy - but just careful about what I eat in terms of calories and fat content. I know, I know... before you all say eating out is a treat and just eat what I fancy... having been overweight I am now super cautious and acknowledge I can't let myself lapse.

Anyway - am at a bit of a loss on this one...Really interested to hear what you would choose and what would be the lightest option.

I'd say either the trout or the herring for the starter, then if you can't face more fish for the main, maybe the lamb rump? Rhubarb soup or the orange & plum salad for pud, although I'd gag at the latter - violet jelly, yuk! Or , and I'm going to say it, you could just have what you really fancy for one night - one meal won't necessarily cause a relapse! You apparently have to eat 100 extra calories every day for a month to put on 1 pound over that month. So as long as you're OK the rest of the time, it won't make any difference. Enjoy the meal whatever you choose Smile.

I think you need to get this in perspective actually - it is one meal.

If you are such a particular eater and knowledgeable about calories you would also know the answer to your question.

You sound a bit attention seeking and honestly to go to all this bother about one meal would suggest to me that you need some help with your over attention to food.

knottyhair · 16/03/2011 09:54

Limpingbint, that's a bit harsh! The OP was asking for opinions on what to choose from the menu, - what good did you think your comments would do?? If you think she is attention seeking, why bother responding at all?

mrspink27 · 16/03/2011 10:06

Thanks knottyhair - I am not attention seeking and I acknowledge I do get jittery in an eating out situation - particularly when there are people around me I dont know who live in the world of the grown ups and not the school run etc.

limpingbint its not "bother over one meal" just nice to hear what others would choose and what they consider to be the lightest option - maybe I do need help with "over attention to food" but that's not what I started this thread for.

The lightest options for the starter and main are the fish options, herring or trout for starter and trout for main ( not the mackerel option as its fried and oily to start with ). The lightest options for pud are the fruit options - I love the sound of the rhubarb soup - but do remember they may be light in terms of fat, but using sour fruits like rhubarb will inevitably mean sugar is added is fairly large quantities.

The other point to consider is 3 courses. I'd
be pushed to eat 2. I think I'd decide which two dishes I fancied most that weren't too heavy and go with those.

Have a great time, it sounds lovely.

I completely understand where you're coming from on this. If I'm being "good" and have the discipline I would choose the low carb options, because that is how I loose weight. So I would go for what ever you fancy, avoiding the starch and sugar. I would leave the biscuit and potato for example but would happily have the lamb or pork. I don't have sweet deserts so would go for the cheese but I see that's for two. Have a lovely time.

It looks like a lovely menu, but I bet the portions aren't vast. You could probably get away with most things. It's not like you have to go every day.
