Stockport PCT

Hi All
I wanted to give people who come under Stockport PCT a heads up on changes to items on perscriptions.
Firstly anyone with a Gluten intolerence there are changes to what you can have on perscription. Items such as Pasta, and the fresh bread have been removed from the allowed list of perscribable Gluten Free items.

Whilst looking in to getting more information on this I came across the document on the stockport PCT website PrescribingProject-EIA.doc.docx and within this document it talks about stopping the perscribing of baby milk to children under the age of 2. Although this does not affect me I am concerned it will affect some parrents.

I was told in my letter that these cuts are not a money saving exercise, yet in the document from the PCT it clearly is a money saving exercise.

I just wanted to make people aware what Stockport is doing as I think other PCT's are doing similar things.

Thanks

i agree that changes have got to be made in order to cut costs. many people argue that we all have to eat bread, pasta, biscuits ,pizza bases etc and we all pay for them. its a difficult area and will cause much debate. Also nutritional feeds are being stopped unless the person has been assessed by a dietician. So an elderly patient who is malnourished has got to wait to be seen by a dietician and deteriorate further whilst waiting. Maybe the PCT's should look at the prescribing of paracetamol and ask people to buy them as they are so cheap.
