No kitchen for 10 days- what will we eat?

Hi all

From next Monday we will have no kitchen til the following Wednesday. I have a 2 ring camping stove and also a microwave/toaster and we will have a fridge.

Really dont want to rely on takeaways so what can you recommend that I can easily make? The main issue I foresee is with the lack of worktop space to prep stuff- weill have a small table but that will have kettle etc on as well.

Inspiration most welcome!
TIA

I would be tempted to make meals this week & freeze them, save the bother of all the prep, they can then be heated in the microwave. Mashed potaro, gravy, bolognese, curry, rice, casseroles etc all freeze well.

Don't forget good old beans on toast!

I dont envy you, but I'm guessing you'll have a nice new kitchen at the end of it Smile

could you make and freeze meals in advance?

What do you usually prepare?
You could try tinned food (soup, backed beans, spaggetti hoops) or microvave jacket potatoes with beans, pre- grated cheese, coleslaw or other topping.
There are also loads of microwaveable heat and serve meals if you're happy to go down that route.

Endless - if you have a fridge mince, lamb, fish pies, etc. Prepare now and freeze somewhere (neighbour, family etc)

Thanks all- I dont have a huge amount of space in the freezer to make lasagnes/fish pies etc unfortunately but I will whip up some spag bol this weekend as a filling for jacket pots or with pasta and also a tagine for with couscous.

do you have a slow cooker...? or buy a cheap one...

you can do endless casseroles etc and then use microwave to do rice or jackets etc to go with it...?

basic pasta and sauces. Bacon, onion, garlic with/without tomatoe or mushroom with a bit of creme fraiche/cream or courgettes, lemon, garlic, chilli and olive oil or tinned tomatoe based sauces using whatever you prefer to mix with them...

I'd also probably do things like steak/chops/fish that you can fry on one one plate, and then on the other put a big pot of boiling water and add veggies at different times - start with new potatoes, then add carrots and finish in the last few minutes with courgettes/broccoli/peas etc. Just serve with olive oil or butter. And the added benefit is that you can peel the carrots while the potatoes are in, then chop the greens after you've added the carrots (or buy pre-prepared or frozen for convenience).

second the slow cooker idea - you can pick one up for about a tenner
