Hi, is there such a things as an alternative to bechamel sauce that I could use/make for a lasagne?

Why? Is there something you need to avoid? Don't think it would be very easy to find a non-dairy alternative...

Nooo, just have a really fussy, pain the arse DH and am trying to find meals I can cook that we'll both eat. He said he'd eat lasagne (which I love) but doesn't like bechamel sauce as it's too creamy Confused

Ah well, was worth a shot! Thanks for replying.

Jamie Oliver uses creme fraiche I think, maybe mixed with some parmesan.

Grumpla · 02/03/2011 21:11

That's going to be way more creamy!

If it's sheer fussiness, tell him you are using a lite non creamy recipe and just make the normal stuff. Maybe use semi skimmed milk?

I just make cheese sauce, but that's about as creamy as bechamel.

You could try a veloute sauce rather than bechamel. Same butter/flour roux base but made up with stock rather than milk..... Not traditional but would work fine, I think

Thanks Chil, I will try that. Thanks for replies peeps.

Agree with debka. Jamie's alternative is very good and extremely easy to do. I usually add a tablespoon of milk though to loosen it up.

I also use creme fraiche, much nicer.
