Can I roast potatoes in a ceramic dish?

My decent sized metal baking tray thingy has vanished and the only thing I have that will fit the spuds in is a ceramic dish - lasagne type dish.

Does it make any difference what they are cooked in?

I need to know by about 3:30pm Grin.

TIA

I think they'll cook a lot slower, so you maybe need to get them started sooner than usual then turn them down if I'm wrong Grin

thank you Smile. I was thinking they might just take a bit longer. No worries though as it's just for me and the toddlers.

They prob won't go as crunchy, as it won't retain enough heat. Can you zip out to a supermarket quickly? They sell them for about £3.

Or do saute ones instead? Part boil in slices or large cubes and then fry in a pan.

I once cooked spuds in my ceramic lasagne type dish and it cracked........not huge major cracks, but hairline (visible though) ones - I'm not sure it liked the heat the fat got to Blush

hmmm, I might try and squeeze them into the smaller metal baking tray then. Any surplus can go in a metal pie tray.

Heat the dish (in the oven) with a little olive oil in it first. Then put the potatoes in when the dish is hot.
