Plastic cake tins - any good?

I want to make a dinosaur cake for ds' birthday and I've seen a tin I like but it's plastic - it's supposedly ovenproof but I've never tried a plastic tin before.

Does anyone have any experience of using them? Are they any good? Do you need to amend recipe/cooking time etc?

Do you mean those flexible silicone ones? I have 3 and they are great. Easy to wash as well. Don' need to change recipe at all.

I imagine a palstic one would recreate the chocolate teapot issue very neatly Wink

But assuming you eman silicone (thanks for the giggle LOL) my experience is that decent quality ones are very good indeed, and cheap- the Asda ones are fine The poundland this ones are awful though, just collapse.

If it feels sturdy enough to stand up under the weight of the mix, I would say go for it. They are an eye opener for ease.

No the one I've seen is not silicone just ordinary plastic... Says it's for cakes Hmm but I was not sure hence asking the wise mnetters!

Anyone actually tried an ordinary plastic one or is the retailer having me on? Grin

Maybe it's the plastic that you steam puddings in. If it's from a proper shop with a brand, it'll prob be fine. Do a trial of half the cake mixture. If it's the choc teapot scenario, take straight back to complain and sue for a new oven.
