Chardonnay tastes fizzy...

Got a bottle of Chardonnay (cheap Hungarian with a screw top lid rather than cork). Poured myself a glass and it tastes, for want of a better word, a bit fizzy.

Not what I was expecting with Chardonnay - does that mean that there's something wrong with it?

Yes. Don't drink it. Take it back to shop and complain and get a decent one.

I mean one with nothing wrong with it, rather than a 'decent' wine in a snobby way, IYKWIM. I know very little about it, but I have experienced this and it isn't right.

wasn't reading it in a snobby way so don't worry :)

Thanks for reply - wasn't sure if I was being a bit silly! Will phone supermarket to complain now and return it tomorrow

Looks like I'm going to have to be settling for the virtual wine for now :o

It's fine, it's called petillant and sometimes happens with white wines. I think it's a bonus if i get a bottle with this!

Oh, I like it when it's like this. But I suggest drinking/decanting at least half of it and then taking it back.

Chardonnay is actually the name of the grape not the wine.

It is the grape used for some of the greatest wines in the world such as Chablis and Champagne. Most of the great Burgundies are made from Chardonnay.

Some of the crap wines from the New World from any grape should be avoided.
