Silicone vs traditional cake tin

Hello - trying to decide - i want to make one of those giant cupcake cakes, but unsure whether i should go for the silicone mould or the traditional metal type tin. i am likely to use it on more than one occasion, so i dont mind paying for the more expensive metal one, but the silicone ones do seem much cheaper, so i wondered if there is any difference in the results of each.

thanks for your advice master bakers!

Personally, I find that the batter in the silicone moulds take longer than the metal type tins, but then they are also a lot more pliable so easier to remove.

I prefer my tin ones

I am a bit Blush as I replied but I like baking more than baking likes me ...

Ahh thanks - i see the merits of both, but think i will probably go the traditional route then. have never used the silicone so maybe not the time to start now!

I have used tins for years, and recent bought a silicone one. I think its miles better, and wish I had tried them before. BTW I have been baking for over 30 years.

I find that if I use a silicone tin the crust of the cake doesn't have as nice a texture

I like silicone because it's much easier to get the cake out afterwards - I haven't had that problem with the crust, plus the tin cools much quicker and I find it easier to wash!

ohh, lovely, thanks for further comments. it seems everyone has different experiences! think i will try the cheaper silicone option and if no good then i can get the tin. as i usually semi freeze my cakes before i frost them then hopefully the crust issue wont be too much of a problem. ta x
