Is he bored, or is he happy with what he has? My DS has wraps or pitta or sandwich with either turkey, smoked salmon, salami or ham, and sometimes "dippy lunch" which is one of the above fillings, with cucumber, tomato, pepper, cream cheese or hummus for dipping, with a few crisps, all in separate compartments. He has Greek yoghurt with fresh fruit and honey but obv the fruit changes. I've tried him with other stuff, like couscous, pasta salad etc. which he has at home but he says it takes him too long to eat at school!

My friend once gave me a recipe for savoury flapjacks that is lovely. It's basically grated veg (carrots, onions, courgette, sweet potato) sauteed, mixed with grated cheese, oats and an egg and if you like some toasted pine nuts and a pinch of mixed herbs. Bake, cool, cut. Keeps for a couple of days in the fridge. My mum also makes a savoury loaf with cheese, olives, sundried tomatoes and herbs (could be adapted to younger palettes). You can also get mini bagles now. They might be a nice alternative to wraps and pitta.

I bought a Thermos food jar last year for my daughter so she can take hot food to school for lunch - she loves it - pasta and sauce, hot homemade soup etc makes a nic echange from cold sandwiches

My DS has:

Sandwich, wrap or pitta, filled with egg mayo, turkey, ham, cheese and tomato, coronation chicken, salami, sometimes with salad. Sometimes he has cheese with crackers instead.

Savory: olives, mini bread sticks or veg sticks with humous or a mini pack of boursin cheese, piece of cheedar or a babybel, home made cheese straws, boiled egg.

Sweet: frube, home made flapjack or home made rice crispy square, fresh fruit, fruit in juice, sugar free jelly with fruit in it, cereal bar (Jordans or something), small pack of raisin or yoghurt coated rasins, dried apricots.

Not especially creative,m is it? I am always stuck for new ideas!

My DD takes pretty samey packed lunches too. She will eat anything at home, yet her packed lunch always contains:

Sandwiches - cheese&cucumber, tuna mayo&cucumber, egg mayo or ham&cucumber

Fruit - satsuma/apple/grapes/berries

Veg - usually cherry tomatoes, occasionally carrot sticks

Yoghurt

Cheesestring (rubbish I know but she loves them!) or if we don't have any in she will just have the 4 above things/very occasionally take treat (eg choc oat cookie today) if I have baked stuff over the weekend

Think I need to get some new ideas!

Shape to a square about 2cm thick and then cut into triangles and pop on a greased tray.

Cook in a hot oven for 10 minutes.

Leave to cool and store in tupperware and put butter in between and wrap in cling film.

banana fairy cakes
put 4oz butter and 4oz sugar in food processor and wizz, add egg and then add 5oz flour and sliced banana and wizz again, drop in soem vanilla ess if you want and then teaspoon into paper cases in muffin tray.

9oz apricots with pint of water and put on the heat - bring to the boil and then simmer for 40 minutes until the water is absorbed.

Add 8oz porridge oats to seeds or crsuhed walnuts and mix in 1oz of sugar

Line a square baking tray and put the mibxture into the tray.

bake for 35 minutes and then bring out of the oven and leave to cool.
