Can I leave my homemade soup cooking whilst I go out?

I've got a soup cooking but need to go out for about 2 hours. Will it be OK if I leave it on the hob at the lowest setting?

so long as its got enough liquid in and wont boil over it should be fine

nappyaddict · 11/02/2011 16:07

How do I know it won't boil over? It's got about 500ml liquid in.

Soup does not take that long to make. I wouldn't.

I wouldn't either. I levae things in the oven but not on the hob. Is it a gas or electric hob?

Soup doesn't take that long to cook. Turn it up now & then off just before you go out. Put back on max when you get back & it will be cooked. I would not leave the hob on whilst out.

I take it you don't have a slow cooker?

If you switch it off it should continue cooking anyway.

I agree with above, turn off just before you leave and leave with lid on......It will be still warm when you get back....(although you will have to reheat if you want it hot!)

I wouldn't do this, no. Particularly if you have a gas cooker. Stick it in the slow cooker (if you have one).

I'd be too scared of burning the house down by some freak accident!

I frequently leave veg cooking on the hob when I go out. It's electric not gas though. The soup was fine, but needed some tom puree and I'd run out!
