Organix finger foods....healthy snacks or cleverly marketed junk food?

A friend suggested Organix finger foods, ie corn hoops, tomato wheels, carrot sticks, as a good finger food snack for our 7 month old DD. She loves them. Easy to hold and dissolve nicely in her mouth so easy to eat too.

My only concern is they look so much like crisps, that I wonder if they are as good for her as the packet suggests?

What's your thoughts on this?

I don't think that they're terrible, but I also don't think that crisps are, in moderation... if you see my point. Anything like that is tasty and convenient and helpful when you're out and about, but it's expensive and not particularly nutritious compared to a piece of fruit, some toast/crackers, or a chunk of cheese.

You're probably right that they encourage crisp snacking as well, since it's the whole crispy packet thing isn't it!

Maybe just give her them occasionally and the rest of the time carry a little stash of ricecakes and other portable snacks that you're happy to give. Smile

I have previously ranted on here about this very subject.

They are CRISPS, simple as that. No problem with your child having crisps but people seem to think that they are in fact a carrot rather than a carrot shaped crisp. So yes very clever marketed junk food.

Also the biscuits with No added Sugar...utter bolleaux, they use concentrated grape or apple juice which is in fact fructose a SUGAR. Again fine to give your dc a biscuit but please dont think htat this crap is actually healthier!!

Anyway rant over....yes they are junk food so as with all junk food fine in moderation. Personally i probably wouldnt use for a 7 month old but then i am clearly a hippy jusdging by my rant above (im not a hippy BTW, honest!)

I also don't think they are terrible, but quite "junky". they resemble chrisps and other "not so good" snacks, especially the puffy ones.
occasionally yes, but just plain rice crackers, breadstick, cheese and fruit is better imo.

I've thought that. Just crisps in a healthy looking packet. DS rejected all their biscuits too, as did I as they were so bloody messy. He likes a nice rich tea finger though!

I would say they're better than 'proper' crisps in that they don't have all the salt that crisps do, but they are essentially hugely overpriced and well marketed junk...

Buy a pack of salt free rice cakes and a banana instead I say, far cheaper.

It's the overpriced-ness of them I take offence to rather than the nutrition really.

Well I wouldn't worry about this sort of thing unless they're given all the time. I have no time for food fanaticism personally, much as I love to cook. I'm sure they're fine in moderation.

They have far less salt than normal crisps, and they actually taste of something (unlike rice cakes, which are crap).

They're fine, basically.

i see them more as carefully marketed junk, just without the salt.

so yes a lot better than a pack of wotsits, but encouraging to snack of junk from a very early age IMO.
