Would These Frankfurters Be Safe To Eat ?

This morning, I was horrified to realize that I'd left a package of frankfurters out all night, after cooking and eating 2 of them. They were unrefrigerated for about 16 hours.Blush I immediately put them in the fridge, but I'm not sure what to do now. We just bought them yesterday, and I'd hate to waste them, but I'd equally hate making everyone sick.( Insert wimpy emetophobe emoticon here ) If I were to boil them for an extremely long time-to the point where they would burst open-would it be safe to eat them ?

I wouldn't risk it. But it's up to you.

If you have a cool kitchen, then yes I would eat them, but if it is heated then probably not.

Yes, heat it through properly, these things generally have so many preservatives in them that they could survive a nuclear holocaust, so should be fine. I'm very casual about sell by dates and the like, though.

Thanks, everyone, for replying. Hmm, with the divided views, I'm still not sure what to do. But a saying that I heard long ago, and had forgotten about, "When in doubt, throw it out", has just popped into my head. I'm usually not so forgetful, so here's hoping that this was a one-time lapse !

My Dad got horrific food poisoning once from frankfurters that had been in the fridge, opened for just 2 days. I certainly wouldn't risk it. He'd heated them through properly as well, but it didn't kill the bug (can't remember which one it was, but he's lucky he wasn't hospitalised and he lost a stone in 4 days!!)

yeah, bin them.
