Im just about to put a chicken in to roast best before date is today.
One of the wings looks a fuuny colour and smells.
Ive cut the wing off and washed the rest of the chicken and it seems ok.
Is it ok to cook it?
Normally I might not but we're skint at the moment and we got a chicken with the intention of getting 3 meals out of it.
Don't want to poison anyone though!

no

please dispose of the whole carcase

I am so sorry

HingCogNeeto · 05/02/2011 11:17

take it back to where you bought it?

suzikettles · 05/02/2011 11:18

Is it from a supermarket? If so, then take it back. They will refund/replace.

PandaG · 05/02/2011 11:18

I really wouldn't. HOwever - if you still have the packaging - and can fish the smelly bit out of the bin - take it back to where you bought it from and demand a replacement as it went off before the BBD.

cornsilk · 05/02/2011 11:19

I wouldn't

mmmitsdelicious · 05/02/2011 11:19

It's from Tesco but can't get there as it's miles away, I don't drive and DP is working Sad

Depends on how risk averse you are.

You could cook it and see if it still smells / tastes off.

I've cooked chickens "on the edge" before.

But funny colour isn't good.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 05/02/2011 11:21

No way. No point making three meals if you'll all be too sick to eat them!

southeastastra · 05/02/2011 11:22

i've eaten chicken that smells weird just cook it then see ob if it smells when cooked leave it

Itsjustafleshwound · 05/02/2011 11:22

I wouldn't - I had to throw some 'new' chicken away as it is just not worth risking it.

I would e-mail customer services or ring them .... perhaps they would refund at least??

mmmitsdelicious · 05/02/2011 11:22

TBH it has put me right off, I can't eat it now. So I can't really feed it to DC's either can I?
I wonder if customer services have an email and I could tell them and ask for voucher to refund?
It worth a try.

I've just emailed them.

I think phoning the store rather than emailing is more likely to get results tbh.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 05/02/2011 11:48

put the smelly bit in the freezer (well-wrapped, of course) until you can get there, if they need you to take it back for a refund and you can't get there today.

JaquesTouatte · 05/02/2011 11:49

Chicken is one of the worst foods for food poisoning. Only serve it to your children if you want to poison them.

KangarooCaught · 05/02/2011 11:57

Tesco poultry is rank and have a poor reputation re quality and quality control as a lot comes from abroad.

nannyl · 05/02/2011 12:08

normally im not too fussed about stuff

but even I wouldnt eat that

candleshoe · 05/02/2011 12:20

Ive had a phone call from them. They appologised and are sending me a refund via a gift card thingy.
Have only just seen your message Shiney. I'm not very good when it comes to things like this. I'm just happy with a refund - wish i was brave and had asked them for a complimentary bottle of wine
Wink
