So is all chicken full of hormones then?

Didn't know whether to post this here or in health but I wondered if anyone knew about this.

I keep hearing about how girls are starting puberty earlier and earlier these days and that growth hormones put into chicken and meat could be a cause of that.

I'm not normally a worrier but we eat a lot of chicken and I come from a family that tends to start puberty early anyway (my sister started her periods at 9). DD is 4 and I'd really like to spare her that. I do buy good quality chicken and free range most of the time but I have no idea whether the hormones are in that too.

Am I worrying unnecessarily, do you think?

Yes.

I suspect you are right that hormones from meat, dairy and water concentrate in our bodies.

I buy organic meat and dairy hoping this will reduce the hormone exposure. We also drink bottled water.

They're in the water too?!

In London water is recycled 20 times ie has been through 20 people before you drink it. Obviously most nasties are purified out but hormones egfrom people on contraceptive pill are not filtered out so the concentration just builds up....

No, only cheap chicken.

Buy organic, buy whole chickens which will last for 2 -3 meals, and then you don't need to worry about it.

Even organic food has some ( permitted) chemicals in it. And so does bottled water.I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy life and stop worrying about things you can't control.

Thanks for the responses, it's interesting to hear both sides! Smile

Bit of an urban myth re water.

All water is recycled. That's where rain comes from.

yy stick with organic chickens though if you really want to avoid anything added.
