Have a fair few coming round for drinks/buffet lunch on Sunday. No worries about the main courses but I'm stumped when it comes to puddings - thing is, I really don't have a sweet tooth so don't appreciate that others enjoy them. Also thing after a couple people have had a portion of most things it just looks like a mess on a plate therefore I usually just do piles of brownies/flapjacks etc. More a cheese and red wine girl myself.

So I'm going to do my best - am 47 on Mon so time I grew up! Any crowd pleasers I can make ahead on Saturday? I'll have plenty of fridge space thanks to my neighbour. Thanks.

Do individual things in tumblers/ramekins so you don't have all the mess and germs of a communal bowl?

Fruit salad for those still sticking to New Year diets.

A nice big cheese board.

And something sticky and chocolatey for the sweet of tooth:
Tiramisu
Cheesecake - individual ones in ready-made pastry cases?
Chocolate mousse - with black cherries is scrummy
Pavlova - this could be really easy by doing ready-made meringue with freshly whipped cream and some fresh fruit plonked on top Wink

Thanks purple - individual sounds good. Have got loads of ramekins/glasses. Guess I could make mini pavlovas and mousse then creme brulees with the yolks.

They did fresh fruit in tumblers in a hotel I stayed at recently now I remember - nice to think no-one's poked around in it!
Off to search out dishes/glasses...

I had to sit through Food Hygiene at work a few days ago - brought a few things to the front of my mind Wink

Creme brulee seems like hard work, how about creme caramel?

You're right, especially as my blow torch no longer blows! A friend makes the easiest yummy choc mousse - melt a bar of Lindor choclate, whisk up 3 egg whites per bar and combine. Obviously large sign for elderly or pregnant! Will cheat and use the plastic wine glasses for that.

Perfect! Chuck some raspberries/tinned cherries in the bottom first, then a layer of mousse, then some crushed ginger biscuits, then more mousse. Sprinkle with cocoa powder/something fancy et voila!

Thank you again. Have loads of raspberries from my dad's garden in the freezer. Just bought some bits to "create" with so I'm all set to go on Saturday....

May even try some of the food!

Like you I don't go a bundle on desserts either. I like the idea of brownies and flapjacks. How about some fancy cupcakes and some scones with jam and cream as well?

I guess I'm a bit paranoid! My neighbours are fantastic cooks/hosts and yummy as my brownies and lemon drizzle are, I think I need to try a different tack! Have bought sweet shortcrust pastry and will make some little fruit tarts, choc and berry tarts and banoffees to go with choc mousse. As I have a cupcake stand, I may knock up a few choc buns as there'll be a small number of children.
