Personally I use the plastic takeaway type containers (you get 10 for £1 in Asda) as it gives perfect single portions.

But any type of tupperware would do or if freezer space is tight use ziplock bags. Just put quantity in seal, lay flat on a baking tray and freeze then after an hour or so remover baking tray, makes it perfectly flat and stackable.

My friend recently told me of someone who had soup stacked in her freezer, like books on a shelf, in zip lock bags. We were trying to figure out how she had done it. Now we know!

I use plastic freezer bags - those ones with the sealing tops. Then you can just tip the soup into a heating container or even cut it into portions if you don't want to use it all or want to divide it into bowls to heat in a microwave.

Works for me (soup must be coolish first).

Soup freezer bags - I get them froM morrissons quite cheap. Lakeland do them more expensive.

We use soup freezer bags from Aldi (I think) and they squish into all the awkward gaps.

The freezer. Obv.

So wanted to beat Bertina to it.

I've been looking at the 'have you been pregnant with a toddler' thread all night and behaving myself. This was a thread too far.

I freeze all my soups and sauces in ice cube trays after chilling in the fridge so it freezers faster. I then decant into freezer bags. Then I can chuck whatever size portion I need straight into the pan if necessary. If it needs one that needs to be defrosted its a lot quicker too.

I've just read my post and realised what a sad individual I am

What is a soup bag?

MakemineaGandT · 01/02/2011 21:36

I freeze single portions in tupperware type boxes and once frozen I take them out and put them in freezer/food bags (takes up much less space and then you can reuse the boxes so you only ever need have a few). To get the frozen soup blocks out, just turn pot upside down and run it under the hot tap for a few seconds to loosen, then turn out.

I do the same with portions of spag bol, chilli, cheese sauce etc etc

TeaOneSugar · 01/02/2011 22:02

I buy plastic tubs with lids from poundworld, I think you get 6 for £1, I reuse them probably at least 6 times before they split.

PDR · 02/02/2011 13:54

mamadiva soup bags are just like normal freezer bags but stand up a bit so easier to pour the soup in - also the ones I have bought today (in Sainsburys) have a zip-lock close so no spillage! 10 for £1 bargain!

I have some Lakeland soup bags. Utter brilliance, but don't be thick like I was the first time I used them and pour just cooked soup into the bags. They don't respond to boiling hot soup so well...Hmm

I save up butter tubs and the like, good for a single portion. Just write what's it the tub on the lid before spending half an hour opening frozen butter tubs to find the chowder you made last month.
