Kiwi fruit for baby

The first time DS (7 months) had kiwi I dutifully mashed it through a sieve as per Annabel Karmel's instruction - presumably to remove the seeds.

Does anyone know if this is really necessary? He would certainly be able to cope with the texture if I just squished it with a fork. Are they really indigestible or something? All you're left with is a small amount of runny green goo which needs thickening with baby rice if you do it Saint Annabel's way...

try sieving it and then mixing with squashed banana...yummy

Can be allergenic - I wouldn't give it until your baby's a year old, same as strawberries.

Oh really...he's already eaten it with no ill effects, should I not give it again?

Jess had it at 10 months in slices. Loved it. Still does!

kiwi's taste hot in my mouth so i have never given them to dd but woul like to - any safe way if doing it?

Lakota, it is recommended not to give kiwifruit before a year old because it is potentially allergenic. The more you give before a year, the greater the risk. If either you or ds's dad has any food allergies in either family, then you should be especially careful.

Ummmm, all three DD's have had kiwi from as soon as they could manage the texture, also strawberry. No adverse affects to report.

I have to say though that they prefer the 'golden' kiwi fruit (they're hairless) as these are sweeter and less acidic.

I wouldn't worry unless there are allergies in your family.

Thanks everyone, will give it a miss for a while then. Any ideas on good food for Vit C? He's had a cold and I don't give him juice as he already has quite a few teeth and I don't want them rotting.
