I need to plant some, not sure wether to do it in the garden or in pots but was wondering what ones you use most frequently? i'm guessing basil, thyme, rosemary are probably the most popular but which other ones would be nice? it might help me expand my cooking repotoire as well.

Rosemary - dead easy and smells fab
Parsley - use it so often
Tarragon - doe't use it as much but v. easy to grow in a pot. Good with fish

lots of kits here

I do plenty in pots on my patio. Just try whatever you fancy and see what happens. Keep mint in a pot as it grows everywhere if you let it run free.

Some herbs in the garden can take over (mint) or get overwhelmed. I'd start with pots - you can move to planting in the garden later when you're more confident.

I grow rosemary (dead easy) and mint (dead easy). Also thyme (fairly easy) and parsley (easy, but hard to get in the quantities I'd like). I also am growing sage currently but it's not doing so well. I have a small bay tree too which is fantastic and very easy and hardy.

In summer, my herb pots are out in the garden. In the winter, they've all been moved to right outside the back door where they're a bit more protected AND easily accesible.

In summer, I also grow basil. And I'd like to make better progress with coriander this year too.

Bay tree, mint, fennel, parsley, kaffir lime (inside). All pretty easy and make your food taste nice.

Last year had rosemary, basil, oregano (so much better fresh), mint and thyme

Unfortunately we had to dig out the entire garden and start from scratch, so will be planting again soon.

I grew mine on my patio and just outside my back door in the summer. I grew thyme, rosemary, lemon thyme, basil, mint, parsley, sage and oregano. Currently have basil in a pot on my window sill.

I'm a big herb fan. I like them raw in salads.

We have the standard perennials - rosemary, thyme, lemon thyme, sage, mint, bay, fennel. Chives seem to come back too.

Each year I grow tons of dill and coriander, basil but keep it indoors, oregano, sorrel, chervil, and my all time fave, French tarragon.

I can't recommend growing herbs enough. Spring and early Summer are a time of culinary delight!

I'd like to grow some indoors on my windowsill - the kitchen gets heaps of sunshine. Maybe move them out in the summer?

I'm thinking basil, mint, coriander, chives and flat parsley.

What I need is a long thin tray to put all the pots on, to catch all the water!

ilovemyhens · 31/01/2011 19:33

I have rosemary, thyme, oregano, lemon thyme, parsley, tarragon and chives in my garden, but I have to fight the chickens for the thyme!
