And also, they are not allowed to fall to bits!!

I use the recipe out of the Good Housekeeping book and they turn out ok, but I know they could be better!

Any good recipes or top tips?

And quick please, cos I want them later tonight SmileWink

It would be too runny I think, Dawny.

I do have a divine recipe for sultana buttermilk pancakes if you like though.

mawbroon · 30/01/2011 21:04

Is it the buttermilk in the litre cartons?

Just drink it. It's delicious Smile

But not if it's the other stuff!!

Ooh, interesting. Does the condensed milk really work? I often have a tin in due to my addiction to Nigella's fudge!

taffetasplat · 30/01/2011 22:10

Bumper - it doesn't just work, its divine. I use slightly less than SD's recipe asks for and add sultanas but its still so unctuously gooey it needs to stay in the fridge.

Bumperrlicious · 30/01/2011 22:15

Well I'm breastfeeding and oats are good for supply so it'd be madness not to indulge :)

2old4thislark · 30/01/2011 22:41

I add an egg and a couple of ounces of flour and it makes them more cake like - kinder to my teeth and fillings Grin

SoupDragon · 31/01/2011 09:39

I"ve never had to store my flapjacks in the fridge :o

CaptainNancy · 31/01/2011 10:39

Storing flapjacks is surely never necessary?

SleepWhenImDead · 31/01/2011 10:54

My favourite added ingredient is chopped dried apricots mmmmm

Need to make some flapjack but I have run out of porridge oats. [adds to ocado order]

SoupDragon · 31/01/2011 12:21

I store mine around my thighs.

I would love to update you all on the condensed milk flapjacks, but I haven't been out to the shop for the condensed milk.

Looks like it will probably be tomorrow......

Ok, we had no biscuits in the house. This is why I wanted to make flapjacks.

Last night, I couldn't wait for the condensed milk any longer, so I made the microwave ones. The mixture looked a bit dry, so I put in some Oatly (oat cream).

They are waaaaaaaay nicer than the ones I have made before in the oven, so vast improvement already.

Still drooling at the thought of the condensed milk ones though....

I made the squishy cookies from the recipe board.

They were indeed squishy and also yummy.

I even started a thread earlier to say thank you to Soupdragon Grin

Going to make more tomorrow!

MimieD · 08/02/2011 13:19

Just made some this morning and they are absolutely delicious, I cannot keep my hands off them... Thankfully I have another half can of condensed milk left to make some more Grin

meltedmarsbars · 09/02/2011 11:07

Mawbroon: my ma used to soak the porrige overnight - the oatmeal type, not rolled oats.

And my Da made models of all the Broon's heads for DC Thompson when I was a kid - for some exhibition or other.

HannahHack · 13/02/2011 19:21

What can you do with the other half of condensed milk? Can you freeze a second batch?

nappyaddict · 17/02/2011 12:26

2 - 3 small bananas
1 cup chopped nuts
zest of lemon/orange
2 cups oats
1/3 cup veg oil
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 tsp mixed spice

Mash the bananas in a large bowl.
Add the nuts and oil to the bananas and mix together.
Stir in the oats and the vanilla essence and
leave for 5 mins for the oats to absorb the oil.
Spoon the mixture into a well greased baking tray and bake at gas mark 4 for about 25 mins.
Cut into squares whilst warm.

You can use a mixture of 75ml skimmed milk and 2 egg yolks instead of oil as well.

nappyaddict · 17/02/2011 12:31

Grated apple and pear and blueberries are a nice addition too as is 3 tablespoons of malt extract and sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds.

Has anyone tried adding raspberries, cranberries, blackberries or strawberries?

BogWoppitt · 17/02/2011 13:06

just found this thread.

made the Baking made Easy ones at the weekend.

Nice and soft but SO sweet (DC's loved them!)

Will try SD next

Maria2007loveshersleep · 19/02/2011 16:32

Made Soupy's recipe a week or so ago, sensational flapjacks! I put most in the freezer but they didn't survive there for long, hhhhmmmmm Blush.
