I haven't got a griddle pan - will a frying pan do?

It's for one of those Jamie 30-min recipes (the book which requires a £300 batterie de cuisine Grin)

I'm going to have to get a food processor too, for 5-sec transparent slices etc, but the good ones aren't cheap & the cheap ones aren't any good, according to Which anyway - any recommendations please???

Yes, a griddle pan will just add stripes.

oh good, thanks, blatherskite Smile

(I'll use a marker for the stripes Wink)

Genius idea Grin

The ony other difference I can think of is that griddle pans tend to be made of cast iron so would heat up and become hot in themselves but it's nothing you couldn't recreate with a frying pan on a high heat.

I need a food processor too. I think it's a MagiMix he uses. What does Which? suggest? I got the 30 min cookbook for Christmas and have been browsing the "need" list with envy ever since.

DH bought me a Kitchen Aid for my 30th - only 7.5 more years to go until I can ask for another massivey expensive kitchen gadget Wink

I've had an amazon binge today & ordered a griddle pan (only £7.99) & \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-HR1363-Blender-Chopper-Accessory/dp/B000LYSSWW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1296133178&sr=8-1\this stick blender} which also comes with a chopper - I know chopping isn't the same as slicing but I thought this would do for now; all the recommended processors (bar one) are £140+ & they all seem to have niggles of some kind so I'll hang on for a bit.

The Which recommendations are (if you want to have a look round while you're waiting your 7.5 years Wink)

KitchenAid Artisan 5KFPM770 £250+
Dualit 88610 £220
Magimix Compact 3200 £180
(quite keen on this one - it crushes ice!!! - more than I want to spend though. But I've put it in my save for later amazon basket in case it pops up as a price reduction any time soon)
Gordon Ramsay food processor £140
(I'm quite tempted by this one, its only drawbacks are "No beater attachment for whisking or whipping, vibrates when in use and dirt traps around the lid" - I wasn't planning to do any whisking or whipping anyway!)
Magimix Cuisine Systeme 4200XL £200
John Lewis DLC2009JLU £115
(this is 2nd favourite - esp on price - drawbacks are "Fiddly to assemble blades, no beater attachment to whisk and whip, no jug blender attachment, short power cord length" - again beater doesn't matter, neither do blender & short cord, but fiddly puts me off a bit & I can't find any customer reviews of it)
