Best breakfasts for children?

I have always given my children a good breakfast but recently we seem to be squeezed for time (they wake around 7 and we have to leave on the dot of 8) and I feel like breakfast is being compromised.

What would you say are the best (most nutritious) breakfast cereals? They currently have Weetabix, Cheerios or Shreddies followed by some toast or a brioche. They all like eggs so often have boiled eggs but I'm sure I could do better. (They normally have a smoothie or small glass of juice too - plus a large cup of milk).

DD often only wants cereal, she won't eat porridge and she's not too keen on Weetabix so an alternative for her would be great.

(Also, whole other topic but if we are really rushed they will just have cereal then a piece of fruit in the car - does that totally wreck the post-breakfast tooth brush??? God I hate school run!!)

DD has 1 minute scrambled eggs (protein a good idea for breakfast generally). Porridge is great if you'll eat it, but if they won't they won't. Agree that weetabix and shreddies much better than shreddies - putting banana / raisins / dried apricots / prunes on it probably helps. Peanut butter on toast will keep them going all morning. My speciality is a big bowl of mixed berry oaty crumble which I bake then keep in the fridge, DD has bowlfuls each morning for the next few days warmed up in the microwave with single cream.

But generally I agree with everyone else that you sound like you're doing fine.

Our favourite takes 1 min 20 secs in microwave: (Ready made) pancakes (sold in packs in all supermarkets) with chocolate. Choc gives instant sugar energy, pancake gives slow release starch energy plus milk and eggs.
Plus the fussiest eater in the world (my 10 yr old) loves it.
It's a winner for me.

I buy all sorts of crazy sounding sugar free, organic, wholegrain i.e. 'hippie' Wink foods from the local wholefood shop - I personally prefered coco-pops as a child and I still wouldn't eat them now BUT I am trying to bring my children up to be a lot healthier in their tastes than me. We also do natural yoghurt for breakfast plus slices of banana.

Thanks for all of the replies - they had eggy bread and a carton of smoothie this morning and I didn't stress about it not being enough!!

I know it takes time but American style pancakes (where you add a bit if baking powder and whip up the egg whites before making the batter) are gorgeous and you can add all sorts of fruit or even choc chips to the pancakes, always go down a storm in this house.
