my dd is 2 and has never been a big drinker but now barely drinks anything. She has milk morning and night and other than that she'll have at most half a cup of juice a day. I've tried water and different types of juice but she just isnt interested. I know that if she's thirsty she will drink but Ive never been a big drinker and although not thirsty have got dehydrated - i know this obviously andthink oh i must drink more - but she doesnt. Any ideas or similar experiences.

will she drink milk during the day as well?

have you tried taking her to choose a special cup? that might make her want to drink more just to use it

I have various drinking utensils that she likes:

Including a baby's bottle for when she wants to be 'a baby'!

Also some doll's sippy cups that are functional.

Sometimes I fill her toy teapot with water and put her a toy cup and saucer out and pretend she's making tea.

Give her my sports bottle of water to hold when out in the buggy or car - she drinks it absentmindedly because it's in her hand.

my dd wouldnt drink out of beakers at 9mth so i went out and got a cup with a straw and lid that closes from woolworths for £1.99 and she loves it and now drinks more than ever.

i think a special cup is the best idea, maybe something with a straw or such so its a novelty and she should be happy to use it.

hope that helps!!!

thanks - she will only drink milk out ofa bottle not a cup and the health visitor said to cut milk out so she eats more solids. I think the cup with a straw might be an idea - i'll go and check out woolies tomorrow!!!! It's worth a try.

if it doesn't workj then ignore the healht visitor! if that's all she will drink then let her... otherwise she will get rated and end up ill

We did the same Stacey. fab value from woolies! My DD does not drink a lot but in a new cup (or borrowed if at a friends house for example) she will drink more just due to novelty value I think. If we go out for coffee I always get her a plastic cup and straw and she always drinks all her drink up. Anything different or fun is good. Also I used to dilute her milk half with water so she got less of the 'filling' milk and at least some water too
