Those of you who eat healthily...

... what do you actually eat? I really want our family to eat better. Our diet isn't bad, but it could be better. I know that you should eat more fruit and vegetables, but how? What do you put them in? I would really appreciate some ideas for healthy meals that a fussy DH would eat.

Thanks!

Breakfast = Granola with banana / low fat natrual yogurt and honey on top - v filling so often no need to snack

Lunch = wraps filled with tuna / prawns / ham etc with salad and low fat dressing if needed / home made veg soup

Snacks = fruit / nuts / cut up veg which dip into low fat hoummous / banana cake as treat

Drink = water / fruit teas (white wine now and again!)

Supper = lots of veg cut up small / good sauce (look at recipe books) meat plus a carb - make it brown rice or pasta or sweet pots.

We try and be healthy as a family and DH and I go to gym 3/4 time a week, both DS take all sport clubs at school and do rugby for 2-3 hours on Sunday.

DS like trying new fruits which they see at supermarket and we often make fruit salad with petit filos on top. They have been allowed to choose 3 veg they DON'T have to eat all others they have to try.

That sounds great SimplyTes! Do you make the wraps yourself and are they better than having a normal sandwich?

We do 'picky bits' sometimes. We get a bit pile of stuff out from the fridge and chop them up and put them into bowls and people help themselves from the table. Rule is you must have a range of colours on your plate:

Chorizo
Cucumber
Red pepper
Celery
Cheese
Houmous
Breadsticks

Also corn on the cob always goes down well here.

Brown rice/wholemeal pasta always served up.
Cous cous for a change. Roasted sweet potato or butternut squash as well as rnage of usual veg.

Huge mushrooms roasted with olive oil/balsamic vinegar, serbe on toasted muffins spread thickly with goats cheese. Sprinkle with a few toasted pine nuts. One of DDs favourite teas.

Lo salt peanut butter on wholemeal toast.

Wraps seem lighter and make a change from bread.

I buy the wraps and the boys fill them up - they love melted ham and cheese and I can put red pepper in if finely chopped up and some shredded lettuce.

We are far from perfect and their ultimate food is pancakes covered in melted chocolate buttons - as is mine!

Since going to school and have their lunch there they are much more adventurous.
