I have longed for a bread maker for a while...and I've finally decided to treat myself.
The problem? - well I'm totally confused by all the makes on the market and the differing prices - Can any mumsnetters recommend one??
Many thanks..

I bought a breadmaker today after reading this thread. I'm just waiting for my first slice of Cheese and Bacon bread now, I can't wait.

I LOVE my Panasonic!!!! I borrowed a friends breadmaker for a while but the bread wasn't that nice then I tried another firends bread made in a Panasonic and it was soooooooo much nicer. People keep asking me how much it costs to make a loaf but I don't use it for cost. It's tastier than shop bought bread and I know what's gone into it. I bought mine form Comet online for £98.

I've recently 'rediscovered' our bread maker - it's an LG HB152CE. (I think it's around £50 new now - it was more expensive when we got it!) We've had it for nearly four years - used it lots until No 1 child arrived, then the kitchen got taken over with sterilisers and bottles and breast pump bits. No 2 child is now here and No 1 child has sandwiches in his lunchbag. He prefers home made bread so that's what he gets - full of fibre, whole wheat etc etc. Amazing since he won't eat supermarket brown/granary/wholemeal bread!

I bought a book "Real Food - recipes for your Breadmaker" and have made several of their recipes. They work a treat and it's a great book for advice. There's a section at the beginning explaining what all the ingredients actually do - it helps to explain where things might be going wrong.

The only time we had less than perfect results it was because the flour was a bit old - you do need pretty fresh ingredients but it's well worth it.

Just wanted to say thanks to Oakmaiden. I got my Panasonic from Empire Direct and the bread is wonderful. My 81-year old mother says it's the best bread she's ever tasted.

Brill, isn't it?

I've recently dug out my breadmaker - at the weekend I made some Sundried Tomato and Basil bread - it lasted about 20 minutes!!

The kids loved it - we ate it with melted cheese YUMMY!!

I'm a regular bread maker now thanks to this thread....

I put it on timer and a beautiful smell of fresh bread greats me in the morning.....

Did have to experiment a bit to get the "right" loaf for us!!

I tried the timer thing but unfortunatelyh our bedroom is above the kitchen. DH was not impressed at being woken at 5 am by the breadmaker beating the dough.....Anyone else had this problem?

waterbaby · 01/10/2003 16:36

Yes, we used to have three dogs who slept in the laundary room adjoining the kitchen... the howling etc the first time we set off the breadmaker meant thatr we were all awake in plentry of time for an early breakfast that day!!!

misdee · 01/10/2003 22:46

the only sound we hear from my breadmaker in the morning is the beep when the bread is done. my dd then wakes me up saying the bread is ready. so i'm tempted to set it so it finishes at 8am. if only the kids would sleep that long.

miggy · 02/10/2003 11:07

DH complained this morning because the SMELL of the bread baking had woken him up at 6am- how ungrateful is that!

Janstar · 02/10/2003 11:10

Oh, Sonnet, I'm so glad you got the hang of it in the end. It's great isn't it?

Sonnet · 02/10/2003 11:29

Oh Janstar - to awake to the smell of frsh bread this morning was heaven.....

Only noticed last night thou, that I'm using the wrong yeast - it says not suitable for breadmakers on the side!! - thats what comes of shopping on tesco.co.uk!!
