Hot chocolate?

Many years ago I stayed with columbian family and the mother used to make the most marvellous hot chocolate and iirc she used to put a large slab of white cheese in it.

I have never heard of this since, and was wondering if anyone else had heard of it, or could tell me what it was?

White cheese? I've heard of them putting chilli in but not cheese.

MadameMorticiaMills · 07/10/2005 17:17

It was definately white cheese, it looked a little like mozarella. Sounds horrid but it was lush!

Googled and found this, if it's any help.

Puerto Rican Hot Chocolate

Bar of Chocolate
Milk
Queso Holandes (Cheese from Holland, try a Hispanic foods store)

Chop Cheese into small pieces
Heat Milk
Scrape Chocolate into Milk
Stir
Simmer over low flame for two minutes
Add Cheese, simmer and stir for one minute
Serve and enjoy.

Good God WWW, I think this might be it! I did google it but must have missed this.

I shall hunt down the Dutch cheese and have a go.

Might be completely manky but I'll give it a go.

Thank you

Blimey! I assumed it was something that only looked like cheese. Sounds horriffic!! Although marscapone cheese is good with chocolate...

WigWamBam · 07/10/2005 17:23

The idea of cheese in hot chocolate is very strange - but I have to say that mascarpone in hot chocolate would be divine!

MadameMorticiaMills · 07/10/2005 17:25

If this is the recipe trust me, it was delicious, a little strange but lovely.

could it have been mascarpone cheese?

that is so thick and white and VERY creamy (and hardly tastes cheesy at all).... me thinking now maybe it would be nice!!!

MadameMorticiaMills · 07/10/2005 19:03

It was definately a slab, could you get a slab of marscapone? Or would that be more of a dollop?

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 07/10/2005 19:04

Mascarpone would definitely be a dollop.

LadyDragonOfSoup · 07/10/2005 19:22

Although it is a solid dollop rather than a creamy dollop...

MadameMorticiaMills · 07/10/2005 19:24

Sorry, it was definately a chunk

When will you be trying the recipe then?

Nightynight · 07/10/2005 20:00

am fascinated by this. was the cheese salty?

MadameMorticiaMills · 07/10/2005 20:15

No it was slightly sour, but not in a yukky way. Going to look for the one WWW mentioned, though I'll know it when i see it.
