Quick - Do I parboil the veg for a casserole?

I am a bit dim when it comes to cooking, so this is a genuine worry. I know this time round I should brown the beef first, so learning all the time...

But, should I parboil the vegetables first? I have carrots and parsnips, as well as onion which I will chuck in with the beef. And I have a stockpot thingie for making the stock. Actually, I'm panicky now because I feel I should have more vegetables Confused

I really need supervision for the kitchen, but only DS is available and he's not much cop.

No, do not parboil

MakemineaGandT · 20/01/2011 13:24

no

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 20/01/2011 13:24

No, not necessary!

Oops. I did. Still, bring whole new meaning to "Melt in the mouth", eh? Smile

Thanks for replies, haven't been looking as Mumsnet has been playing up very recently and I didn't think my thread had actually been posted, ifyswim.

I have been making notes though, and will learn from this, I promise Grin

Can I suggest buying Jamies Ministry of Food cookery book?

Loads of basic but very tasty recipes in there

TheNoodlesIncident · 20/01/2011 17:41

Basic is just what I need!

There are a lot of ordinary dishes that I have little idea how to prepare and cook, but wish I could.

Can do a nice shep pie though, as long as the little un isn't trying to stand on my feet all the time.
