Is a 3.5 litre slow cooker big enough for a family of four?

I bought one today. Dh showed it to my mil and she seemed to think we'd be better off with a 6 litre one like hers. They seem huge to me surely 3.5 litres is fine?

We're a family of 5 (although youngest only a baby) and we have a 6.5l which gives more flexibilty & is the right size for us. Fine for cooking a single meal but big enough to make two meals out of it (e.g. usually make enough to eat one and freeze one) & can get a whole chicken inside it (AWT said yesterday on the webchat an oval one was better for getting joints of meat in it than a round shaped one).

I think a 3.5lt one is fine for family of four. Having said that I don't plan to do a whole chicken in mine.
I bought my new one yesterday (old one was 4.5) and all the research I did suggested a 3.5 was fine for 4.

Just read awt's chat and he seems to recommend 6l. Mil has a 6.5l one and she said mine looks to be much too small.

we have 3.5 litre one for family of 5 which has always been fine. i can get smaller chickens in - but i don't like doing these in slow cooker anyway
