...will it be ok just as it is, or do I need to put something on it to stop it going funny?

not sure - I think tinned pears would be ok so maybe fresh would... if I was you I'd do the experiment on one tomorrow.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/01/2011 22:08

Good idea!

No pear in his lunch for tomorrow then!

If its wrapped in fresh yogurt and honey then ok but I can imagine the mess! Put him off for life!

not sure about pears but for my DCs, used to cut an apple into sections, then put it back together again , and wrap in clingfilm. That meant the cut apple was away from the air. (wouldn't work if you wanted to peel it)

I used to cut up an apple and coat it in orange juice, and it was still edible by lunchtime. It might work with a pear, although they seem to brown quite quickly.

KurriKurri · 19/01/2011 20:08

I used to use one of these for fruit for my DD and it worked quite well for chopped/peeled fresh fruit.

AnnoyingOrange · 19/01/2011 20:11

I use tinned pear in a tupperware box

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/01/2011 20:13

Right. Tried it and it went brown!

Tinned pear it is then!

I put it in for my DS and a squeeze of lemon seems to stop it going brown.

bigTillyMint · 20/01/2011 18:58

I cut apples/pears for my DC and very quickly core and then wrap them up in cling film, tightly. It seems to work OK for them!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 20/01/2011 19:27

If you use one of these apple corer/slicer's, you can push it almost all the way down, but leave a tiny bit holding the apple together at the bottom. Wrap in clingfilm, and your child can break off segments, like a terry's chocolate orange.

Rooble · 20/01/2011 19:31

Can't they bite their fruit????? Seems a bit of a waste of clingfilm to cut it and wrap it, when surely teeth do the same job? (or is it just me?!)

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 20/01/2011 21:23

Apologies for the misplaced apostrophe. Blush

I used to find that sending apples to school in the lunchboxes was a waste of time - on a good day, a couple of bites would be taken out, and the rest of the time, the apple came home untouched. Sometimes the same apple would go backwards and forwards to school for several days before I threw it away.

Yes, the dses could have used their teeth, but they didn't - and maybe if I had cut up their fruit for them, they might have eaten some of it - who knows.

Snap!

DS eats pre-sliced fruit. He never touches anything other than banana if it's not been prepared!

He's 5. I think he's in too much of a rush!

Think my DS may be too much of a piglet! It distorts my view of what children do!

haggisaggis · 21/01/2011 13:19

See I would never consider eating a whole apple - but slice it for me and I will happily eat it! Don't know why.
