Hi everyone,

I'm new to Mumsnet (and the U.K., actually) and was wondering whether there were any good food-related magazines that people would recommend.

Also, I'm going to (hopefully, one day) start making food for my DD---any good recipe books that people found to be of use? Equipment that was especially handy?

Thanks for your help---Mumsnet is a wonderful resource!

I quite like the Waitrose magazine. I used to get BBC Good Food but went off it after an editor change seemed to point it towards convienience rather than cooking.

As far as equipment goes, the main thing I used when preparing food for dd (other than a knife & a sieve) was a stick blender - the type you just stick in a container and whizz. Mine's a Braun but there are quite a few others out there. I wouldn't be without it even now as it's ace for pureeing soups with out all the washing-up of a food processor.

I like the Australian Women's Weekly Baby & Toddler cookbook and Nigella Lawson's How to Eat which has a chapter on feeding children. Some people rave about Annabel Karmel's books, they caused too many tears (mine, when nothing would be eaten !) in our house so they went to the charity shop.

There are loads of ideas on Mumsnet too, this is a good thread.

Agree with Twink - loads of ideas on the internet and Nigella is great as she has two littlies of her own. If you shop in Asda you get a good magazine free at the checkouts.

There's a book by Dorling Kindersly called PLanet Organic Baby & Toddler Cookbook by Lizzie Vann (she founded Baby Organix). Obviously you don't need to use organic ingredients. I found it great without all the fancy fiddling about that Annabel Karmel favours.

I had a little food processor for pureeing baby food but now I have a jug blender, I'd use that if I were having any more babies.

Welcome to Mumsnet & the UK!
