Just ordered this after nicking borrowing my friend's copy. Have made the chicken in cider & cream, and the beetroot & walnut hummus. What else is good?

Big fan here. we had the lamb with merguez spices for lunch yesterday ... mmmm, followed by clafoutis (made with plums from freezer though).
have also enjoyed beef with ginger and soy, and lamb and squash curry.
The butternut and nut butter soup is good (very rich though) .
The easy chocolate cake is very rich and very easy .. and the chocolate and beetroot browines are also good.
Oh yes we also had the cornbread the other day, I added grated cheddar and finely chopped chillies and it was very tasty.

Gosh we have been eating well!

I have made:

  • blackcurrant trifle ( very good )
  • baked chicken curry ( nice )
  • chicken and mushroom casserole with cider ( good )
  • wholemeal drop scones ( yuk don't bother )
  • two fruit salad ( inspired way to get DC eating normally boring apple and banana )
  • Stuffed butternut squash ( yum )

I can't wait for quince season to make the quince and Bramley apple sorbet

The apple cake is lovely too. Delicious hot with ice cream or custard and just as nice cold on its own.

Love this book Smile.

I've made pretty all of the same things as GeorgeEliot, except the beef with ginger and soy and the clafoutis (actually, we almost had this yesterday but went with plum crumble instead...). All were lovely. I do the same with the cornbread and it is now much requested amongst my friends!

Have also done the chicken & cider casserole (yum), honey and peanut butter booster bars (nice), focaccia (v. good), pizza (I liked but kids didn't like the polenta taste - think I may have used too much), digestives (friend made these actually but they were very nice; recipe makes a lot though!); pork with fennel & new potatoes (I really liked this but no-one else did! It's the fennel thing...), brisket (yum), pork belly (yum again!), stuffed squash (delicious) and choc beetroot brownies (DP and I loved, the kids not so keen...).

I've liked everything I've cooked from it and there are lots more I want to try - best cookbook I've bought in a long time (and I have a weakness for cookery books Wink)

Thanks everyone! I'm planning on making the booster bars later this week as DP is back to early starts and feels sick if he eats too early so can take them on site with him. Soda bread at the weekend. Started jotting down a few things that look good,but I've already filled up a sheet of paper and not halfway through yet! Got cherries in the freezer from the summer, so may give clafoutis a go as well, plus might get beetroot in our box again this week so the brownies sound good....

I'm another massive fan. I'm almost evangelical about it - it's one of the few recent books that I think really lives up to its title and doesn't ask you to buy special one-off ingredients or unicorn hoof or some such.

The flatbreads, soda bread and pizza have become staples here now - especially the soda bread as I always forget to use up the yoghurt when I've opened it.

The soups and salad/veg recipes are fab too. My copy is bound together with book tape and is covered in splash marks, which to me is the real marker of a good cookbook.Smile

The genoese recipe in Everyday is also so much clearer that the Roux one in Patisserie (which basically boils down to a list of ingredients and a gallic shrug...).

In fact, like LittleFriendSusan, I've yet to try a duff one from here. Hope you like it as much, knottyhair!

Have been on a bit of a Hugh Fest over the last couple of days, and have managed the booster bars (lovely), leeks & greens (nice way to use kale) and the fried halloumi salad. All went down very well with DP and DS aged 6. Can't wait to keep ploughing my way through the book - thinks it going to be a favourite.
