Has anyone else had a problem gettin their babies to drink out of non teat bottles? beakers with non spill lods or similar? trying to encourage her to drink some other fluids and in principle she wants juice, boiled water etc but cant seem to drink out of much other than a bottle! any ideas?

chloeb2002 - how old is your baby?
this is really common if it is when they first start to try beakers.
It can take a while so just keep perservering

Tommy Tipee do quite a good one with a pyramid-like anti-drip spout and big flat handles. The bottle itself isn't that good - difficult to put together and it leaks - but because of the drip it was perfect for getting dd used to the idea that if something goes into her mouth that isn't teat-shaped, it can still be sucked you don't necessarily chew it!

I think the Avent spouts are the best non-drip ones because the baby doesn't have to suck hard, so they are more 'natural' and more like an ordinary spouted beaker. I got ds to suck from one by putting it on the disposable Avent bottle and squeezing the bag so that water came through the spout, and then she knew what to do with it. It took her a month or so to get used to it, and I think I started her on them at about the same time as she started solids, so probably 5-6m old.

I know what you mean choleb2002! I have tried Tommee Tippee non-spill cup (he unscrewed the spout), Avent non-spill cup, anywayup cup, first years cups. He'll drink a few sips quite happily but will only drink full quantities of milk from his Avent bottles - and he's 16 months old! Problem is he is now unscrewing the lids from the Avent bottles and getting covered in milk!

Same here- DD is 19 months - found best one, as did friend - a really basic one from boots there own brand stuff, spent a fortune trying every other make in th world and Boots are the only ones that seem to have worked.

I used the Avent soft spout beaker and it was fine.

DD was really good at sucking and the valves were not too strong so seemed quite easy for her.
