How can I cool down too-hot chile?

God knows what dh has put in it, but it's way too hot (and I like 'em hot and spicy).

I do not have creme fraiche or yoghurt (other than strawberry). I do have Philly cheese - any good? Any other ideas, gurus?

Sugar or lemon juice works well, and the Philly would certainly help.

TheMonster · 03/01/2011 17:34

Quark. Yoghurt. Sour cream. Any of those work.

mousymouse · 03/01/2011 17:34

philly would help, as would potatoe

TheMonster · 03/01/2011 17:35

I think any cheese mixed into it would work.

rocketleaf · 03/01/2011 17:35

The philly will help. Have a glass of milk on the side when you are eating it. Take a gulp when it all gets too much. :o

Or pad it out with more vege and/or tinned tomatoes if you have those? Also green salad on the side? Cucumber? anything fresh that will cool your mouth.

sugar or potato.

Sazisi · 03/01/2011 17:37

Salt and sugar, and lime or lemon juice or vinegar

pantaloons · 03/01/2011 17:37

Sugar is the way to go, I know from experience!

Thanks all. Should I dollop some Philly in now or wait until serving? It's still simmering on the stove at the mo.

I double checked this as I remembered reading it but haven't tried it. Boil an uncooked potato in it for 15/20 minutes and it'll take the spice/heat away.

squeaver · 03/01/2011 17:43

Oh amazing, Mrs D. Off to do that now.

Hope it works!
