No tomatoes, peppers, processed apple or dairy - help!

My 17-month old is sick if she eats tomatoes or peppers. She does not like potatoes (same deadly nightshade family as tomatoes and peppers). Her nappies are loose and smelly if she eats dairy. She got blisters in her nappy area when she had some apple juice.

She does not eat fresh fuit like bananas, pear or apple, but will eat the Oaty Mixed Berry bars. Most Goodies snacks are not OK as they are sweetened with apple. My daughter will not eat snacks sweetened with grape juice.

It is easier in the summer when there are lots of berries to eat.

She will not eat cheese as is, even goat's or sheep's cheese. She will not eat ham either.

She does drink goat's milk and is fine with it. She eats Alpro Soya desserts.

She will eat smoothies, but we have to limit the number she has as they go straight through her.

Courgette sauce is great, as is humous.

I make lots of rissoles of various kinds as long as they are based on rice or breadcrumbs and not potato. Frittata is good, as is risotto as long as I use Pecorino Romano as the cheese.

Has anyone got any ideas for snacks that I could use? I have tried most (including Plum's range) but they have been rejected.

Does anyone know of any discussion forums that deal with both deadly nightshade AND dairy issues?

Looking forward to some help!!!!!!!

I would keep offering other fruits, children can take a while to get used to certain textures and tastes, so it's important to keep offering, even if she refuses

aside from that then:

oatcakes with peanut butter/hummous/marg and marmite or jam

sandwiches (as above)

breadsticks

dried fruit (not too much tho, bad for teeth)

homemade flapjack/cookies etc

How about almonds, walnuts and dried fruit? i can't eat any of those foods either (I follow my blood type diet)

I make fresh pear, apple ground almond and date smoothies with a little lemon juice and hot water (fruit is better warmed gently in the winter).

Hi ppeatfruit. I had never considered giving my daughter nuts as she is so young (she is fine with peanut butter so there are no allergies). What would you substitute for apple in your smoothies? More pear? Bananas?

What do you take out with you as snacks? Raisins are a bit hit and miss. I do not want to give DD2 nuts as they are a choking hazard as she is so young. Do you have any other ideas as you are used to this diet?

Evening meals and hot lunches are easy - we have adapted to DD2's requirements.

Fast, cold lunches are less easy and all help would be gratefully received.

Also, what do eat when you go out to restaurants? DD2 won't eat soup - don't know why but she won't even try it.

Many thanks for replying - I don't feel so isolated at last!

for quick cold lunches we usually have things like sandwiches, or crackers with humous, olives, fruit etc

ds2 would never eat soup until i put loads of croutons in one day! now i just do a slice of toast and chop it up and put in. he gets enough soup as he scoops the bread out that it mostly gets eaten

you'll get used to going out more as you find places that have suitable food. I know exactly which cafes etc in town serve food that ds2 can eat, so it's easier, but it did take a while

we tend to go to places that have jacket potatoes or that can make up sandwiches without butter in and stuff. he often ends up having chips, or just having a meal made up of various veg and stuff from our plates that he is able to eat

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2011 13:37

Kiwi i take sunflower, linseed seeds, sultanas, dates, figs (not all DCs would eat these I know!).I don't eat potatoes (they are deadly nightshade veg. like peppers).

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2011 13:42

or you can buy bars in Health food shops that have the right ingredients in them even without sugar! ground almonds would be okay IMO.
