Slow cooker

I have been given a lovely slow cooker for my Christmas. I love making casseroles, soups, puddings etc but I'm not sure how to use the cooker. Can anyone recommend a good recipe book?

loads of recipes on here. or use your normal ones and add just a dash of stock. will look too dry but don't worry.

Try something like spag Bol first, as it's easy. Just use less liquid, as there is no evaporation.

I chop up celery/carrots/onions/bung a couple fo cloves of garlic in the bootom

Chuck chicken on top(you can throw some water/wine/stock in if you want but it produces loads of its own liquid)

cook all day

be careful how you extract it, lift it from underneath rather tha pronging or it can fll to bits

mash and sieve all the stuff left in the cooker for THE BEST gravy EVER

I've just got one too, the chicken sounds yummy Cybil. Will be trying that one.

How do you do your Spag Bol seabright?

Use cheaper cuts of meat, hough or shin of beef is AMAZING, either in something like Hugh FW's Sweet and Sour Chilli Beef or just with onions/carrots and beef stock

and then make dumplings to go in for the last half an hour or so.

Gammon joints do really well too...same sort of method as Cybil's chicken

I also prefer to sweat the veg first and brown the meat, I think you get a better flavour, but it's not essential

And as you get less evaporation, either use less liquid than you usually do or season more.

well I tried the recipe and it was fabulous. To be honest I was a bit concerned leaving the cooker on whilst I was out but everything worked brilliantly. Thanks Ladies. I will be trying a lambshank this weekend.
