Somehow, and I really don't know how I managed it! I have decked up my custard for the trifle

can I just use the ready made stuff or will it be awful?

Ive had trifle with readymade custard- it was lovely. Dont know which order you do your layers in but this trifle had been in the fridge (with the custard as the top layer) for a while, to set and become firmer. Then the cream on top.

I tried it once and it was just too runny - so I wouldn'r recommend :(

I always use tinned custard for trifle as it tastes so much better than how I make it Xmas Blush. Is custard from a carton the same thickness as tinned?

My layers, from bottom up are -

fruit in jelly
sponge in custard
whipped cream
flake on top

Yum!

Yes. It will be a bit more wobbly than usual though and won't 'set'.

pippop1 · 27/12/2010 13:52

People make their own custard? (shocked)

tassisssss · 27/12/2010 13:54

I prefer the ready made stuff actually.

Cyb · 27/12/2010 13:55

Carton custard? Oh how dreadfully plebian

I am splitting vanilla pods as we speak

Well tidy up after yourself then.

I do read The Times every day though.
