How important is size? Cake tin question

Making xmas cake today which requires an 8 inch tin. I've only got a 9 inch - will it make a difference? Confused Should I drag everyone out in pursuit of an 8 incher or just risk it? Confused

It'll be fine. Just thinner so you may find it cooks a little faster.

Leaving it a bit last minute aren't you? I made mine in October!!! That said, I've made it later and it's been fine. Good luck

Actually size is important as the speed of cooking will be affected. You might find this link useful:

Many thanks! Yes, am leaving it very much last minute; don't normally make one but saw a doable recipe so thought on a whim I'd give it a go Hmm Have decided to scale up my ingrediants, as cooking time adjustment isn't my strong point (things normally come out overdone for fear of liquidy middles). Will try and do today with 4 'helpers'. Wish me luck Grin

Done, but the top has burnt Confused Think I need to do a bit more research next year. Will saw a bit off the top when cool and make the best of a mediocre job!
