What would you cook for a halloween high tea Party

dillydally · 29/09/2005 11:47

I cant make it to my sisters halloween birthday party, so am holding high tea for her at my house instead.

I am thinking of fairy cakes iced spookily and perhaps some food dyed hummus with bread sticks etc Nothing with a pumpkin though as it is slightly fiddly.

Any other great ideas - I am veggie btw
I would like DD (2) to help out with cooking too so simple is good.

Oooh, a few years back we had a kit for biscuits which had a bat cutter in - bat shaped biscuits covered with black icing with red eyes and white fangs

doormat · 29/09/2005 12:02

I am sure Tescos sells spooky iced cakes around halloween
also maybe a soup with red food colouring to resemble blood???

MummyJules · 29/09/2005 12:18

Annabel's party planner has some fantastic ideas for Halloween food so it is worth having a look at that the next time you go past a book shop or a libary! If you want a list of the recipes then please CAT me and i'd be happy to help.

dillydally · 29/09/2005 12:28

dillydally · 29/09/2005 12:34

You are very kind. I shall use the bat cutter as an excuse to spend hours looking through the lakeland web site

charliecat · 29/09/2005 12:35

Dillydally, i didnt mean never post a new thread always search the archives I meant there really was a splendid thread that would deserve a link on this nice fresh new one

dillydally · 29/09/2005 12:36

Sorry charlie - i didnt mean to come across as being a bitter old haridan (sp?), i was truly grateful for the suggestion.

OP posts:
LOLcod · 29/09/2005 12:36

haha! yes you did! ( runs)

charliecat · 29/09/2005 12:37

Werent you just

charliecat · 29/09/2005 12:38

and hey cod...I already suggested the sausage and blood thing...can you read the thread first

flamebat · 29/09/2005 12:38

I don't use the word harridan enough in everyday life....

dillydally · 29/09/2005 12:41

Darn that cod

Being a bitter old harridan is my natural state - sometimes the pretence of being jolly gets too much and the mask slips

Last year i got 6 oranges cut top off, scooped out insides, cut out faces like pumpkin faces then filled them with green and red jelly all mashed up....the kids lived them!
Also Asda do a fab halloween sponge cake shaped like a pumpkin with a black spider on it, that went down really well.
Have a google session for halloween type party food stuff, i got some really good ideas from there.
HTH

Meringues in the shape of bones! Squeeze from an icing bag - long bit with two dollops on each end - be warned though that when "dollops" fall of one end they do look quite phallic - at least to my filthy minded friends they did!!!

mandymac · 29/09/2005 13:24

The ever fragrent Nigella's book 'Feast' has a whole section on Hallowean which includes:

Slime Soup - Pea Soup with Mozzarella melted in it.

Blood & Guts Potatoes - Baked Potatoes with Mozzarella & Ketchup mixed into the filling & extra ketchup dizzeled over, then back in the oven for cheese to melt.

Witches Hair - Black Spaggetti

Blood Clots - Squished up Strawberry, Raspberry or Blackcurrant Jelly.

Pus - Lime Jelly made with milk. (Serve Pus with Blood Clots apparently!) Grin

and a cake with black/purple icing with Halloween Lolly heads stuck in the top.

CAT me if you need the full recipes and I will type up and email.

Yes, instructions for pus are to:

'dot the blood clots with it to evoke an attractive burst boil appearance'
