Pannetone recipe

DH wants to make a pannetone but we're confused about recipes- some we've looked at seem managable but some are really complicated. Anyone got a good, tried & tested recipe? Thanks Smile

Making a traditional panettone is not necessarily complicated but laborious. It can take 3 days to make if the conditions are not right. Ideally it would be 24-25C and dry condition(snow is a bit damp!).

Assuming you were to find fresh yeast and make the initial 'bread stock'/panetto (no idea what the on-going bread dough is called in English), you then have to make the syrup and keep your fingers crossed that the bread which you have risen 3 times is not going to collapse.

After all that effort, it will not taste like the bought one (home ovens aren't hot enough). It will taste more like an English Christmas Bread (yum).

The short cut recipes turn out more like hot-cross buns(yum)

If you're not put off I'll translate the long recipe I have.

Personally I love home-made English Christmas bread.

Here. Pannetone variation at the end. Haven't tried the pannetone but the teacakes are the best ever.

Thanks for the tips. Fava I'd love your authentic recipe- not before Christmas!! Everything's a bit manic now isn't it? DH is a keen baker & tackles all sorts of lovely bread so he's chomping at the bit to tackle something with a bit of a challenge!
In the meantime he's going to try your recipe Uptoapoint Many thanks Smile
