I have bougght one of those ready to roast gammon joints with honey. Thing is really want to put it in the slow cooker as it will make the meat really tender.

Is it okay to do it and if so how?

Thanks

hang on bh, I think I have a recipe for gammon that came with my slow cooker........

what's the capacity/size of your slow cooker?

puff · 28/09/2005 15:55

Here's the recipe for my slow cooker (3.5 litre capacity):

Gammon Joint of up to 1kg weight

Put the gammon in a pan, cover with cold water, bring to the boil, drain and rinse.

Place in the slow cooker and cover it with boiling water (apparently it's impt that it can be covered fully). Cook for approximately 5-7 hours (dep on weight) on medium.

Thanks puff :-). Thing is it has honey all over it so wonder if I boil it, it might go funny!

If it's already got honey on it, it may well do better in the oven.
Gammon is a funny one as it can be really far too salty and I can never tell from one piece till the next. It's a question of checking while it's cooking and that's not always easy with a slow cooker.
How was the casserole - was it ready in time?

Rowlers - I think I am going to do it in the oven as I am worried it might not cook properly. I also only have low or high settings!!!!
The casserole was ready for just after 6ish and was delicious thank you
