I made a boo boo and didn't book a cooked lunch in time for DD Christmas dinner at school. Have you got any idea's what I can put in her packed lunch to make it a bit more special whilst her friends are tucking into a hot Christmas lunch? :(

Do you have a thermos? Because then she could still have some roast chicken, a chipolata, and a couple of roasties maybe! (Bit of a hassle though lol)

You could give her cold roast meat, mini sausage rolls, some veggies and her fave dip, a small tupperwear of choc sponge/treacle sponge and custard..?

How old is she?

If they let you send in chocolate, a little chocolate yule log or if not, a mince pie, turkey roll, mini cracker and some veggies and a dip?

Surely they can fit in one more, this is mass catering we are talking about not fine dining at Le Gavroche!

Grovel at the school office.

Apparently the school have reached the maximum number for school meals. Confused

I like the idea of warm chicken, roastie's etc but I have never put them in a thermos. For some reason I always thought that you only really put soup and stews in them. Do you think that would be OK by lunchtime?

Make a turkey and cranberry sanwich (maybe cut it with a christmas tree cutter) and a satsuma and a mince pie?

sorry but keeping chicken warm for that length of time is asking for food poisoning surely?

it won't be hot enough to keep it safely i wouldn't have thought?

pipplin · 13/12/2010 11:45

I would do cold meat, sausages, dips, and all her favourite things tbh.

Thanks for your ideas. Think it will have to be some kind of fancy sandwich. Doesn't help that she's become a bit fussy and no longer likes sausages or cold meat!

just do stuff she likes. doesn't matter if it's festive, it just needs to be a nice packed lunch doesn't it?
so if she would be chuffed to bits with a jam sandwich then give her that!
presume other kids will be having packed lunches too??

Put in a Christmas napkin and a little message from you.

Why not just do a nice normal lunch with an extra cake or something but wrap up her lunchbox like an xmas pressie. Or wrap all the seperate items as little presents.
