We had a bottle given 3 years ago and were saving it for a happy occasion that didn't happen. We've now got cause to open it - will it still be ok? It has been chilling in the fridge all this time!

Yum...should be very tasty...BTW very impressed doubt it would have lasted 3 years in our house Smile

Prinnie · 10/12/2010 21:25

It will be fine....and last about an hour once opened if anything like me!

Hope it's been lying down - otherwise cork might have dried out slightly and fizz escaped ...

The Widow lasts and lasts.

That's why Napoleon bought up the lot when he entered Paris.

No it's not a euphemism.

In this house? About half an hour Xmas Wink

prettybirdinapeartree · 10/12/2010 23:16

My dh ((2nd year Master of Wine candidate) says Open it, drink it, enjoy it :)

He also says not to worry about whether the cork will have dried out - highly unlikely, especially if it has been in a fridge all this time.

On the subject of fridges, he says it might actually need a wee bit of time out of the fridge to drink at its most enjoyable.

BTW: he also says if it is a vintage (ie, there is a year named on the bottle) you could leave it for a few more years yet Grin

Thanks ladies (and pretty's DH) we didn't plan on having to wait that long to celebrate but we're glad to know it hasn't gone to waste!

Shouldn't be a problem, but as someone else said if you plan on keeping it for any longer make sure you store it upright (sparkling is the exception to lying wine on its side).

thenightsky · 12/12/2010 14:56

Lordy... I've had a bottle for about 5 years. Reckon I'll get it drunk this xmas.

Rollmops · 12/12/2010 20:42

It'll be rotten... horridShock. Do not touch it!
However, it's your lucky day as moi is selfless and ever so kind and will take the vile poison off your gentle hands.
