Packed lunch for toddler?

My 17 month old goes to nursery one day a week and needs a packed lunch. Up till now I've given him a organix/HIPP pot, but he's getting a bit past this as he pretty much eats what we have in the evenings. Any bright ideas for what else to give him? And for sandwich fillings other than cheese that might appeal?

When I want a change from sandwiches I tend to give my 20 month old seperate little pots of things like one of cooked pasta or rice cakes, another of chopped ham or a babybel, and a third with either tomatoes or cooked soya beans.

Another thing you can do is cucumber sticks or carrot sticks (cooked a little), breadsticks and a pot of hummus.

Hope that helps a little!

Yes I was going to suggest veg and hummus or cream cheese.

Quiche if he will eat that.

Sandwiches: cheese (!), tuna, ham, jam, cream cheese: you can make them in pittas, tortillas, normal bread rolled up like a swiss roll and cut up so bite size.

You can do savoury muffins too, there's a good one here

cold pizza if he will eat it

Sandwiches - houmous, pate (smoked salmon or smoked mackerel), banana

Frittata (with cheese and/or peas/potatoes/onion/courgette/herbs/ham etc) - either a big one cut into chunks or make little ones in mini muffin tin. Good hot or cold so good in packed lunches.

Falafel? Sushi? My 23m DD loves them both and has done for ages so hopefully OK for 17mo.

I know - it always feels a bit pretentious but she honestly loves it.

We love sushi and took her with us from when she was little, she suddenly picked up a piece when she was about 13m and that was it.

I guess it's just rice and fish so nothing not to like, but it wasn't something I'd expected to be her favourite!

dd doesn't go to nursery but we are out and about most days and so she has a packed lunch most days...

Cheese cut into sticks
Pineapple rings
Cut fruit (orange, grapes, strawberries, kiwi, apple, pear, water melon)
Crakers with hummus dip, salmon dip, cream cheese, cottage cheese dip, marmite
Cubed tomato, cucumber and bread salad
Baby corn
Small cereal bars
Raisins or other dried fruit
French toast soldiers (a favourite)
Boiled egg sliced
Diced ham
Homemade slice or cookie or cake
Yoghurt
Fruit pot or pot of fruit salad
Homemade jelly with fruit set in
Pureed fruit (a favourite especially apple)
Sandwhiches she loves...tuna, egg, marmite and cottage cheese,
Mini pizzas

My DD loves sashimi! But only since she was about 2.5.

At that age I would often do a little picnic of the stuff mentioned above: cubes of ham or chicken; cheese; cucumber/red pepper/carrot sticks (I think I still cooked the carrots first at that stage); mini breadsticks; and maybe a smoothie pouch or pot of apple pieces or yoghurt for pudding. I wish I'd pushed humous a bit more at that age - DD still doesn't like it though I know of other kids who adore it.
